Dean Campbell, after seven highly successful seasons at the Air Force Academy joined Arkansas Razorbacks' head coach Bobby Petrino's staff in Jan. 2008 as the director of high school relations.
Campbell coached running backs the first five seasons and defensive backs his last two seasons at the Air Force Academy. In that period of time Campbell's coaching expertise has been quite evident with the offense at Air Force ranking in the top five nationally in rushing each season he coached the running backs, they achieved a No. 1 ranking in 2002. He coached five of the six halfbacks in school history who have surpassed the 1,000 yards gained plateau in their careers
He helped Air Force to victory in the 2000 Silicon Valley Football Classic and helped coach the Falcons to an appearance in the postseason San Francisco Bowl.
Prior to coming to Air Force Campbell coached at Texas Tech for eight seasons. He was the defensive backs coach for seven seasons and coached inside linebackers for a season.
Campbell's coaching career started at Texas A&M where he was an assistant for five seasons. He coached the defensive secondary for one season at New Mexico under the legendary Spike Dykes then returned to A&M for three seasons before going to the University of Texas, his alma mater as the defensive secondary coach for five seasons.
Following his stint at UT Campbell coached at the University of North Carolina one season and followed that with three seasons at Rice University before going to Texas Tech to coach the Red Raiders where he hooked up with Spike Dykes again.
Campbell played at the University of Texas from 1969-72 as a receiver and on special teams helping UT win the national championship in '70 and Southwest Conference titles in '70 and '71. He ranked fourth nationally in punt returns while leading the Southwest Conference in the same catagory as a senior. Campbell represented the Longhorns in three consecutive postseason Cotton Bowl appearances. He has participated in 18 bowl games over his career - three as a player and 15 as a coach
He has been active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for over 25 years. The FCA Mission Statement is: "To encourage, equip and train coaches and leaders to live and coach with Biblical principles through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ." They proclaim their reason for exsisting is: "To Provide for the personal, spiritual and professional needs of coaches from Youth Sports through Professional levels."
Campbell and his wife, Cindy, have a son, Scott, and a daughter, Cris.
